My Favorite Love Story | Mr. & Mrs. Dow
Can you believe it?! Michael and I have been married for TWO YEARS already!! Where has the time gone? I know it's cliche to say it's flown by, but I'm truly shocked that we've been married for this long! Michael has been such an encouraging and loving husband. The way he has been leading our little family the past few months especially has only increased my love for him! Michael captivated my heart way back in 2010, and I still can't believe he's MINE.
If you already know our story, feel free to skip this next section and head straight to some pictures from our relationship :) If not, keep reading!! This is definitely the nut-shell version.
Michael and I met in 2010 when we both worked at Scioto Hills Camp. I remember seeing him for the first time on the first day of staff training and thinking, "I want that one." Haha! I was INSTANTLY attracted to him, and couldn't wait to get to know him better. We just so happened to be placed on the same sharpening group (basically a small group for prayer, encouragement, and volleyball!) and over the next few weeks our friendship began to develop. I was a counselor that summer and he worked on the grounds/high ropes courses. After many hours of spending time together (let's be honest, I ALWAYS tried to be close to him during any and all occasions), and at the conclusion of the summer, Michael told me that he liked me, but that a relationship wasn't in the future right then. We started emailing each other after camp ended, and I was so thankful for his constant friendship.
Fast forward to January 2011. We had been emailing each other and spending time together anytime I went to volunteer at camp for a weekend (which was almost every other weekend!). By this point, I was getting a little frazzled. I didn't know if Michael would ever really want me as his girlfriend. We were at camp for a staff get together, and he and I decided that we weren't going to talk anymore. I was pretty devastated, but it was just to hard to keep on communicating as if we were something when we weren't really anything.
As the next summer was approaching, I was really nervous to spend the whole summer with Michael again. We agreed to remain just friends, but we all know how difficult that is when feelings are involved. So all summer went by, and our friendship only grew stronger. I remember trying to shove my feelings deep down inside, but that only made me feel horrible. I knew that Michael Dow was the man I wanted to marry. Yep..I knew it then! Again at the end of the summer Michael told me how much he valued me and liked me. But it still wasn't time for a relationship.
After nearly a year and a half total of going back and forth, Michael finally couldn't live without me any longer :) On February 19th, 2012, we talked via Skype (he had moved back to his hometown in Colorado) and he asked me if I would take that next step with him and be his girlfriend! By this point in our relationship, I knew that becoming his girlfriend meant we were getting married. We had been through so much together, far more than I can write on a blog post!
May 18th, 2013, Michael took me on a walk through a forest. I knew he was going to propose soon, but I didn't know if he had the ring yet! Btw, we designed my ring! I absolutely LOVE it. We walked for about an hour when Michael randomly asked me if he could sing to me! Um, absolutely!! He sang what we consider our song, "The Only One" by Tim Bruns. As he finished singing the song, we wandered onto a path that opened up to a waterfall. He knelt down and asked me to marry him! I remember crying, and jumping!
Michael has truly been God's gift to me. September 7th, 2013 was the beginning of the most joy-filled yet hardest thing I've ever done. Being married to Michael has taught me so much about the Lord's unending grace. I do not deserve him in the slightest, yet he loves me unconditionally. I am so thankful to call Michael MY husband!
Happy two years, my love. You are the only one.
