When I started my business in 2009, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I had never even heard the word "brand" in regards to photography. I knew what it meant in the retail world (Thanks, Target!), but didn't see the connection between me as a photographer and a certain set of ideals, dreams, and marketing tools that would help expand my business and make it personal.
I'm writing this post today all because of the people who have inspired me in this industry. My business has been impacted the most by Katelyn James! She is an amazing artist who captures the most genuine-emotion filled images I've ever seen. She is also a compassionate woman of God, and uses her incredible talent for the Lord and for others. Her brand speaks truth about who she is, and reflects her style. Women like her in this industry who share how they got to where they are today constantly motivate me.
Another gifted photographer is Kari Bowman. We've known each other since sixth grade, and she is the photographer who encouraged me the most to even start my own business! Kari's brand reminds me of joy. She is such an encourager through her work and that has impacted me greatly.
The influence of great photographers like the ladies mentioned above has challenged me to be a dedicated business-woman, kind-hearted friend, loving wife, and a genuine photographer. More beautiful-souled photographers who have been such sweetness to my photography journey include Amanda Hedgepeth, Hope Taylor, Natalie Franke, and Caroline Logan! All women I'd love to meet someday and grow with in this community!
I say all of that because rebranding (or beginning a brand) takes time, encouragement, and help from those around you who have been around the block a few times already. Do I have it all figured out? Hardly! I just started using hashtags for my business on Instagram! :) Making a brand is not a one day process either. As you look through the images below, you'll not only see my branding change, but also my shooting style. A photographer needs to grow into their brand, and years of shooting allow this to happen. I still have millions of things to do, learn, play around with, and embrace.
My brand has been all over the place, but I am so excited to see how much I've changed and how much my business has GROWN since I started. I've had the joy of working with two very talented designers who have brought my vision for Katelynn Dow Photography to life! My first official brand was done in 2012 by Kelsey Mcleod. Kelsey did such an amazing job. I absolutely loved her work and it was so hard to let that logo go! But as a business changes, the branding has to reflect where it is now. Jillian Knoedler of Creative Type Designs designed my new brand! I am IN LOVE with how well she captured what my photography is all about! Clean, simple, timeless, genuine, and blissful!
Capturing moments of joy has completely captivated me, and I am so blessed to be in this industry! Enjoy seeing my business change (and my shooting style) from 2009 to now :)

The logo I started using in 2012! My first officially branded/designed logo for my business!
My designer, Kelsey, gave me a new design similar to the first after Michael and I got married in 2013!
The NEW brand of Katelynn Dow Photography!!! I love every part of it! The circle, the camera in the background, the scripted calligraphy style font, the curry and grey color scheme, and especially the simplicity. It doesn't distract from my beautiful clients!
